Well I checked out the new CG RE movie and it's Degeneration title was quite apt. What we had here was an hour long movie stretched a half an hour longer. The story was minimal, no character development, strange plot holes, ridiculous cliches and worst of all, it was boring.
Action scenes are few and far between lot's of sappy dialogue that leads us nowhere. The zombies permeate the first half hour of the movie then we get a prolonged boss fight for the last half hour with pretty much nothing in between. Worse they went with the trend of dragging out the movies ending well beyond the point it should have stopped. Ultimately the action sucks, the story sucks, this movie accomplished nothing in the overall RE story and it just wasn't entertaining.
For the CG itself, environments look good(So much so that you're given extended shots of the environment constantly to pad out the running time) but the characters look like shit. They straddle this weird line between CG and modern videogame graphics which produces an ugly result. Remember the CG opening for Re3: Nemesis? Well imagine CG characters that look worse than that but have better textures. Animation was also bothersome as everyone moved like marionettes. It never looked like real people were doing anything, it always came off like they were being manipulated by virtual strings.
Lastly for you zombie gore hounds, despite it's R rating all the gore is cut away or shown off-screen. I don't think this was done as any kind of censorship, more they just didn't want to take the time to do more modeling. You'll get blood and gunshot wounds but that's about it.
Overall, as a RE fan and a movie fan I cannot recommend this flick unless you're a RE completist.
