Thanks ignition for releasing this game so quickly. A worldwide release must be hard to manage with translation, even if translation is sparse. I look forward to buying the game on both the consoles upon it's release.

The whole game has been redone. It's gonna take much longer to add more characters cause I think I remember hearing that it takes like 20 people to make 1 character or some such. Something ridiculous like that. When they come out with XIII, I'm pretty sure they will have more than 20.

And what's with all the love with Mai? I never liked her and didn't really see her as important. Having her absent isn't really a big deal to me. She also wasn't in Arcade XI. Isn't she in Japan taking care of Andy or something in the story?

When it comes down to SNK female characters, I'm more of a fan of Blue Mary and B Jennet. I think both are better than Mai, but not popularity wise. People do love Mai. Maybe we'll see her in the next tournament.

I never ever liked B. Jenet. I 100% agree with you on Mary though. Why she was not in MotW instead of Jenet I'll never know. Of course even Joe and Andy got booted so I guess SNK was just trying to pull a Street Fighter 3 with the cast. Mai I find a bit bland but I think it's very clear why she is so popular. Two very big reasons.

I've always been partial to Mai, but I agree with Cobra Commander as to the real reason she's so popular. At first I was upset that she was absent from KOFXII, but I've gotten over it. Personally, I prefer B. Jenet over Blue Mary, though. I just think a sexy pirate captain is awesome! She's just a fun character. In the end, though, I'm curious as to why they went with a, what, 80% male cast. Just an interesting decision.

But really, KOFXII looks so beautiful. And I'm pleased to be limited to 20 characters if that means it keeps the beauty, balance, and gameplay that they've been promising. It's going to easily dethrone Street Fighter IV as 2009's best fighter.

Same here! This is the first time I've seen a major KOF game get released here in such a short amount of time!

As for KOF's females, I prefer the more "classier" women like Chizuru, King, and Vanessa. I would've been so nice to see them all in XII.

Thats why they change the main character in each saga, that's why the story doesn't only focus in the saga's hero but also on the co-protagonists (Iori, Kula, Elisabeth and Luise in the MI series) that's why we have the MI series, and that's why they added Mary as sex symbol to the Garou series and changed Mai by B. Jenet in XI as sex symbol, and so on.

So it really doesn't affect me if she dissapears from the series for good, but it would be great to see her in an updated design for the next KOFs, like a bit more mature in her personality,and even with another colours... more ninja-like.

About KOF's cast desicions, they clearly not only chose the characters according the fan's tastes and the character's charisma but also according to the fighting style -the game needed grapplers and big dudes- , and about what they could do with the graphics, I mean they did a great job with the super wasted Chin, he looks so drunk! And overa, I'm happy with the cast, but of course I miss Elisabeth and K' :(

I dont know about K' im gonna miss him too but also Dont Worry about Elisabeth if you rember she was in early posters of KOF XII so im sure she will be in the final rooster and if not she probably will be an unlockable character:)

Pretty good find but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Leona still has her old costume in that poster which she doesn't have in the current videos. So there is a chance that poster was a promo mock-up. And on the subject of K', he's the 15th Anniversary logo they're parading around yet he's not in KoF XII(So far). What's up with that?

Mai is important the same as Terry. Do you think Rock is a substitute of Terry?? Why B.Jenet or Mary have to be a substitute of Mai? It's nonsense. Mai is Mai. Why SNKP want make her disappear? I know Athena and Leona are popular KOF females too, but make disappear Mai from a game like KOF XII is unforgivable. Mai is a symbol for SNK, not only for KOF. And a great FIGHTER, with a unique gorgeous style. Is there any other female ninja in whole KOF??
And one more thing, Leona wasn't too in arcade XI (neither on PS2 version). Mai was on PS2 version, at least. Don't say anymore this why she is not on KOF XII, because it's meaningless.

A good amount of characters in XII don't make sense. Like Raiden. Not sure why they are bring him back. But the way her story is, seems like she's gonna take a break. But if Andy is returning, I see her returning in the next game.

I've read that in a few places on the internet. That Mai is "taking a break to stay home" and either take care of Andy or just, apparently, relax. I find it rather humorous considering there's no story in XII, yet there's apparently a story-like reason why Mai isn't in the line-up. Just seems rather contradictory, s'all.

Also, RyuEnBu, I agree with you. While Rock is an awesome character, he is no substitute for Terry. I, too, feel Mai is a staple of the series and I'm disappointed to see her being left out.

But, on the other hand, I agree completely with Rock Dash3X. If Andy's in the line up, Mai has to be close behind. She won't be missing forever.

OMG, in every forum I've got to find a Mai lover who will "defend" her as if it was a real person even by saying nonsense or too obvious things and moreover, most of them tend to misunderstand what I write... so tiresome...

I am glad to see online matches confirmed. I haven't read anything that said, for sure, that it was present on the console versions. I think everyone was just assuming because it would be really dumb to release a next-gen fighter without online capabilities. Either way, great to see it in writing.

While Mai may be at times just for fan service, I do agree that she's a staple. It would kind of feel awkward without her, and it's not like she's a bad character to use.

Now Yuri, on the other hand, would need to finish up that team. I just thought about it, and her not being in it is crazy in and of itself. Hopefully we'll see her enter, as well.

It's all really a toss-up, though. I'm waiting to see who they are, as they're sure to be release in the coming months leading to July 7.

I really can only see Mai and K' as being a high possibility. Depending on how many they add, the rest could be pretty random seeing how they been throwing in old characters. Maybe Mary and Whip. I would actually like to see Shingo return. I have this weird feeling that he may become a more important character in the arc.

The way I've seen this from the beginning of character announcements..even though they say no teams, the groupings have been clumped to games and as such. So we have the staples:
Fatal Fury 2: Real Bout Special
Art of Fighting 2
Psycho Soldier
Ikari Warriors
Classic KoF Hero
Mid-KoF Hero?
Neo-KoF Hero

My bets:

King (AoF2 version) - Finish up the Kyokougen team. I don't think her EX update in 98UM was random.

Mai (FF2: RBS version) - This is supposed to be classic KoF, no? The Rebirth? Mai's the poster girl!

K` (any version) - He's on the Anniversary logo. He will be the team to fill in the midlife of KoF.

Maxima & Kula - Heaven help us, but K` without them is just a street punk with no friends.

Elisabeth (End of Year art version) - Because that riding jacket is just classy. We need something to make Ash squirm in his little white designer shoes.


There was also mention of being able to switch between languages... Can it be requested that the Maximum Impact cast not be used for the English please? Note: That is not just my request. My daughter tried to communicate with the Yuri voice when she was an infant..so if even an 8 month old thinks she sounds like another baby...well... I don't know, the voices just..didn't really feel like they matched the characters all that well and I know many, many, many people who agree with that.

Here is a simple solution : When you have a person fill out the registration form do not have them fill out the personal information part of it until after they have been registered this is how the person I know who runs his own forum deals with bots. He gets NONE on his forum because of this. Please do something about this asap.

If they are really going for a FF vs AOF angle again, I wonder if more of the "extra characters" will come from those series?

I'd love to see Sinclair show up as a sub boss just for shock value.

While I agree with most of that, I thought Ralf's MI VA did a pretty good job. He seemed to capture the essense of Ralf, just as well as the Japanese VA. Honestly, it seemed more like Ralf was bilingual than having 2 people play him.

After watching the trailler I was amazed on the quality and stunning graphics. This KOF XII is simply beautiful.

This is a must have for me. Hopefully SNK will come through and make another 3D ( KoF MI) with this dedication.

Uncompleted teams (FF2 and AoF) are too suspicious to belive that. I think these teams, and maybe Iori team too, will be completed. About a final boss I think that if in the arcade version isn't there any boss it's unnecessary on home version too. I don't know what SNKP is planning about extra characters but I don't see any need to have any final boss. I would prefer classic and staples KOF characters that are missing, like Mai, King and K', who shouldn't be left out of this game.

for the AoF team i would prefer yuri or king as u mentioned and for the FF2 i would prefer blue mary over mai cuz im a mary user and becouse i dont think that alot of people realy want mai in the game for them to use they just want to see her tits in HD grafics :p

I can see King more than Yuri for the facts of:
- Yuri was a victim, King was an antagonist..which everyone thought was a guy until you blew her shirt off. That was something new and unheard of in video games at the time. It shocked the heck out of a vast majority of players. She's also been popular with the tomboy lovers.

- King got a slamming EX version in 98UM. I can see this as a tune-up for something more modern.. hopefully for XII. Maybe also a test to see how fans accepted a classic/more balanced version. I'm truly hoping this is the case as she's been my staple leader since AoF 2.

(Don't worry, I enjoy Mai for her ninja bees too.)

PS: Classic Mr. Karate and Mr. Big for mid-bosses, Rugal and Geese for bosses! Maybe Sinclair for alternate extra hard mode. I could never touch her in AoF 3 :/

If KoFXI is any indication the mid-boss is a complete wild-card. The final boss could be Adelheid Bernstein (Rugal's son) again and an Orochi related person being the "real" final boss, like usual.

Actually, I'm really sure KOFXII has no story and the Ash story arc is putting on hold until KOFXIII. Unless new information has been released in like, the past day or something that I've missed. Considering SNKP...I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

The hidden characters have to be AoF related. In the Game Informer interview SNK said they were going with a Fatal Fury vs Art of Fighting concept and yet there are only two AoF characters in the game at this point. That's too lopsided for that concept to work at this point so I'm certain the hidden characters are AoF related.

Agreed. I mentioned this on the previous page. There are 4 FF characters and 2 AoF characters in KoF XII. That's not really my idea of FF vs AoF.

If the secret characters aren't AoF characters then I'm willing to believe Nona just made up the whole FF vs AoF thing to make the interview sound better.

You're right. Console character are finished long time ago. But I think that keep old fans is more save that pretend to get new ones (new fans doesn't care about characters, they're new and don't know the franchise, aren't they?), so maybe use some populars characters is useful. I think Mai, K' and King have their own fighting style, I don't see any reason to forget them. In fact there are some characters in the official roster with less own fighting style, like Andy or Robert that are too similar to Terry and Ryo. And for this reason I think it could be an error to put Yuri, because is too similar to Ryo and Robert.
King fights with Mue Thai but she have a very different kind of fight from Joe, Mai and Andy don't have anything in common although both are Shiranui, K' maybe is similar to Kyo, but I think he has his own gameplay.

To say that they can't be in this game because is the ultimate fighting tool it's ABSURDE.

Well, time will decide. Soon we are going to know WHO are these extra characters, and maybe you will be right, LeonaHeidernUser, and your predections will come true. I'm just trying to express my opinions, worries and wishes, but, the same as you, I don't know what SNKP have decided and wich is their position about it.

I think it all stems from people just trying to figure out a logical reason for them to put a character into the game. Not to mention that in some cases 2/3 of a team is already on the roster. I mean, it's glaringly obvious that the AoF team just needs King or Yuri to make the complete set.

When it comes to KOF, people just automatically think teams.

Sure, they're going with a back to KoF 94 feel but still the game is all about being a balanced fighter. Sure, Nona said there is a FF vs AoF concept going which is what KoF 94 had but KoF 94 also had plenty of other people. I do think characters are important to attract new players, example: I'd be a potential new player for Battle Fantasia, but since those characters seem to be too childish for my taste, I'd never play or buy the game. I'd be a potential new player for BlazBlue but since I think those characters look retarded, the game it's not appealing to me at all. A new player, of course will never say "x character, wich I love, will be there, so I'm buying the game", but rather, "the characters from X game seems to be/play/look cool, so I'm definetly buying this".

Besides it's not like every old fan is gonna take the reaction "if x character isn't there I'm not buying the game", those are a minority -I think those are less than the potential new players-, actualy most of hardcore gamers don't even care about that, but rather the graphics and the gameplay.

Well, you think this game needs a boss... I don't see any need of that considering that there isn't story. I think this game needs 2 more females fighters, Mai and King specifically. They aren't incompatible with a good balanced game, to get new players and to make this game becomes the ultimate fighting tool.

well kof 98 didn't have a story and had a boss(rugal) besides what could a snk game be without a overpowered boss? still i hope the boss(if there is one) shouldnt be in the extra console characters because everyone is going to be using it in online play and it would suck(in my opinion) oh and i agree with the mai/king options but keep in mind elissabeth kinda was going to be in the game since the beggining:o

Now, now. No need to start that. Yes, everyone would like to know who will be the extras. Yes, the question has also been brought up around the chats wondering about the marketplace vs buying alternate things ala SF IV. Another thing has been a large betting pool/debate on how many extras would be added to see if this will make the supposed tech demo KoF worth dropping a sizable chunk of cash on to own. Though that box looks nice, it's super fake. The ESRB logo looks shopped and I see no SNK/Ignition logo on the front. Also see no "NSTC" under the Xbox Live logo. Just looking at the box you could tell it's a fake joke. I just can't see alot of people falling for that joke.

And for 711, have they ever sold any game that wasn't a big profile? Cause everybody hears they sell Madden and Halo, but what about the not so big games? Since KoF isn't as big, would they even carry it in the first place?

I'm not sure how it could be no story. The Ash story arc was obviously left unfinished in KoF XI, so I doubt they'd skip a game.

SNK fans on this side of the Pacific simply seem to hate them.

They just can't see QUALITY FASHION when it presents itself! :V I for one, love Ash. He's got that whole "I'm too cool to put effort into this" vibe going on. I know a lot of fans are offended by his 'metro' look/attitude... but dude, he's French. That's all. He's allowed to.

I'd personally love to see more of the tomboy/tougher ladies of KoF be put into this. King (first and foremost :p), Vanessa, Mary...again, even Sinclair (scary, scary woman)... all great candidates. The MI series REALLY turned me off of the dainty petals and magical girls that were tossed in. Too much 'teehee' for the ass kicking basis of the game.

Pretty good find but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. Leona still has her old costume in that poster which she doesn't have in the current videos. So there is a chance that poster was a promo mock-up. And on the subject of K', he's the 15th Anniversary logo they're parading around yet he's not in KoF XII(So far). What's up with that?

If you think just the tehe girls aren't tomboy I guess you live in a little world, no offense here, but not only cute characters are femenine. Leona ELisabeth, for example, they don't wear a skirt, and are serious, but that doesn't make them tomboys. I also think Vanessa and Mary aren't tomboy, the are even very coquette! Being feminine doesn't mean being silly or being cute. I do think King is tomboy, but not only because she isn't cute, but rather her story speaks for itself, right? but I love her. I have nothing against tomboys, but I'd prefer a feminine femeale character as main character rather than a tomboy femeale character for main character, thats all. ;)
