Did you happen to know Andy Baran during any period of your EGM tenure? I heard he passed away yesterday and I was wondering if you were ever acquainted with him.

Unfortunately, I started at EGM shortly after Andy had left... I always heard all sorts of funny, awesome stories about the guy from his co-workers, though, so in a way, I do feel as if I knew him.

My heart goes out to his friends and family, and I think it's a fitting tribute for Bitmob.com (the new site from my former boss at EGM, Dan Hsu) to host Andy's final work, a 2-part retrospective on the early days of EGM.

I only remember reading some of his stuff in Expert Gamer but I recognized the name when I heard he had died.

Ah EGM how I miss thee. If it wasnt for EGM I wouldnt have learned a lot about Sonic and Knuckles back in Fourth Grade. EGM back then felt very informative about games back then. I think they also were the first to report on Knuckles Chaotix.
